Role Overview

We are expanding our Galway R&D team and are looking for an experienced R&D Process Development Engineer. This position is crucial within the Product Development Core Team, focusing on developing and validating new manufacturing processes and improving existing methods to support scalable production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with Project Leaders, R&D, Operations, and other departments to clarify product needs and process specifications.
  • Lead and mentor engineers and technicians to establish a high-achieving, skilled team.
  • Research, select, and develop materials, vendors, and manufacturing technologies ensuring process reliability and regulatory compliance.
  • Design production equipment, tooling, and fixtures for product and process rollouts, preparing detailed engineering documentation and coordinating with manufacturers to meet quality and project standards.
  • Work with internal and external partners to create, prototype, and optimize custom fixtures and equipment that standardize component assembly and testing.
  • Ensure designs incorporate manufacturability considerations, capacity planning, and cost control for seamless scale-up in production.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing documents such as drawings, bills of material, process routes, and work instructions.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of equipment and fixtures including specifications, tolerances, materials, maintenance guidelines, and integration in process flows.
  • Plan and conduct risk analyses, define process requirements, develop test methods, and execute process qualifications (IQ, OQ, PQ).
  • Generate and uphold engineering and design documentation compliant with quality management systems and relevant regulations.
  • Oversee and support the professional growth of junior engineering staff.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • A degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience in process development.
  • Proven analytical problem-solving skills, including process validation and statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of metal processing, joining methods, and emerging manufacturing technologies is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with vascular medical device materials, processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software.
  • Experience managing teams and developing personnel.
  • Project management training is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational capabilities, comfortable working independently and within teams.
