Position Overview
The Program Aide serves as a versatile support role providing educational, social, and relational experiences to infants, toddlers, and preschool children that encourage development across all domains. Reporting to the Education & Inclusion Manager or Center Director, this position entails work in multiple settings such as classrooms, cafeterias, kitchens, bus routes, and may require travel between program sites and home visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow established procedures and best practices in daily duties.
- Manage time efficiently and keep supervisors updated on issues.
- Foster strong relationships within teams and with children and families.
- Support classroom staff during various activities and serve as substitute when necessary.
- Perform custodial duties including cleaning, minor building maintenance, and securing facilities.
- Assist in kitchen tasks including food preparation, serving, cleaning, and compliance with hygiene standards.
- Serve as a bus monitor if required.
- Attend trainings, workshops, and meetings for staff and families.
- Maintain confidentiality concerning children, families, and staff in line with organizational policies.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Relevant certifications as mandated by federal, state, or local Head Start or childcare regulations.
- Obtain and maintain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
- Experience and knowledge working with young children including those with disabilities.
- Proficient in English communication, both written and spoken.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain confidentiality.
Additional Requirements
- Physical ability to perform medium to heavy duties including lifting up to 50 pounds and engaging in various physical activities.
- Successful completion of comprehensive background checks including criminal and child abuse registry.
- Valid driver’s license and compliance with vehicle operation policies if driving is required.
- Preference given to current or former Head Start/Early Head Start parents for qualified openings.
