Overview

Save the Children US, a global organization dedicated to improving children's lives for over a century, is seeking Program Aides On-Call. This role supports educational, social, and relational experiences for infants, toddlers, and preschool children to encourage development across all domains. Program Aides report to the Education and Inclusion Manager or Center Director and may travel to various sites including classrooms, bus routes, cafeterias, kitchens, or home visits as required for program operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement established procedures and practices consistently in daily tasks, ensuring program quality.
  • Manage time efficiently and keep management informed of critical issues.
  • Develop positive relationships with children, families, and team members.
  • Assist classroom staff with activities and substitute as needed for teachers or assistants.
  • Provide janitorial help including cleaning duties such as trash removal, floor care, restroom stocking, minor maintenance, and building security.
  • Support kitchen operations including dishwashing, food portioning, temperature logging, preparing and serving food (including special dietary needs), inventory management, and substituting cooks as necessary, while adhering to hygiene and sanitation standards.
  • Potentially serve as a bus monitor and participate actively in required meetings, workshops, and community engagement to promote the Head Start program.
  • Uphold confidentiality policies related to children, families, and staff.
  • Become well versed in organizational handbooks, policies, and federal and state childcare regulations.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Certifications complying with applicable Head Start or childcare regulations.
  • First aid and pediatric CPR certification to be acquired within 90 days of employment and maintained as required.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, specifically with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
  • Fluent English communication skills both spoken and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to sensitively engage children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to follow instructions diligently and exercise initiative.
  • Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality and working effectively with children with disabilities.

Additional Requirements

  • Capability to perform medium to heavy physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and engaging in activities such as crawling, stooping, kneeling, standing, and repetitive motion.
  • Pass thorough background checks including criminal, sex offender registry, child abuse registry, and verification of employment and education.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and comply with organizational vehicle operation policies when required to travel for work duties.
  • Preference given to current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents when qualified.
