Role Summary
The Procurement Engineer role involves collaborating with the procurement team to manage the supply chain for designated materials, services, and service parts. This role focuses on refining existing procurement methodologies through sound judgment to meet the needs of various departments efficiently.
This position includes leadership responsibilities overseeing both direct and indirect material procurement teams, with duties covering material planning, managing supply risks and shortages, supplier evaluation, identifying cost-saving projects, and monitoring savings achievements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and mentor the procurement buyers team to achieve efficiency targets and KPIs, encouraging skill enhancement and application.
- Design and implement optimal purchasing processes, policies, procedures, and training programs, ensuring alignment with internal controls.
- Create a supportive environment that develops team capabilities while demonstrating leadership individually and collectively.
- Collaborate with procurement leadership to develop and execute sourcing plans and strategies that meet organizational goals.
- Oversee end-to-end procurement operations, maximizing the productivity and engagement of procurement personnel.
- Facilitate effective communication between procurement, internal departments, and suppliers to ensure smooth operations.
- Prioritize and schedule procurement tasks based on available manpower and resources to minimize operational disruptions and maximize efficiency.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, including material requests and cost documentation.
- Strengthen vendor and supplier relationships to stay updated on market trends, pricing, availability, and resolve procurement issues promptly.
- Develop annual budget plans, monitor implementation, and provide analysis to senior management when required.
- Evaluate procurement team performance quarterly and prepare relevant reports.
- Analyze data and operational fields to recommend and implement improvements.
- Maintain comprehensive business knowledge and collaborate with relevant departments including Finance, Accounting, Business Development, and Legal to ensure accurate data management.
- Manage procurement activities related to internal Material Requirements Planning (MRP) for projects from initiation to closure.
- Address supplier delivery issues such as shortages, damages, or invoice discrepancies effectively.
- Ensure documentation adheres to departmental and company standards.
- Inform heads of departments and costing teams about market changes that could impact budgets or operations.
- Respond promptly to critical parts supply queries and resolve vendor performance concerns.
- Focus on value-added activities by identifying and applying innovative, cost-effective solutions while balancing risk mitigation.
- Develop and maintain metrics to evaluate departmental and supplier performance effectively.
- Activate initiatives to enhance supplier e-Procurement participation and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Demonstrate accountability and proactively seek ways to enhance processes and outcomes.
- Anticipate challenges and persuasively advocate for optimal approaches within the procurement function.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure adherence to processes and deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Procurement or a closely related discipline from a recognized university.
- Familiarity with Electrical or Mechanical Engineering concepts.
- Hands-on experience with split and central air conditioning control systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems components including refrigeration fittings and electrical parts.
- Experience in a manufacturing setting is advantageous.
- Understanding of planning, purchasing, and logistics policies and best practices.
