Job Overview
Join Royal Mail at Rochester Delivery Office as a Postal Delivery Driver on a permanent contract. The role involves delivering mail and parcels to the local community while staying active. You'll work five days out of seven on a rotating shift from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, including one Sunday every four weeks from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The position is physically demanding, involving substantial walking, van driving, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort letters and parcels at the delivery facility.
- Deliver mail by van and on foot within your assigned area.
- Engage with customers and build positive relationships.
- Work independently outdoors across all weather types.
- Manage and deliver a diverse range of mail items, including parcels, exam results, and birthday cards.
Role Expectations
- Walk long distances daily (up to 12 miles/20,000+ steps).
- Drive a Royal Mail van every day, requiring passing a driving assessment.
- Carry and lift mailbags weighing 10kg or more.
- Work under time pressure, especially during peak periods.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a full manual UK driving licence with a maximum of 6 penalty points registered to your current name and address.
- Be physically fit and comfortable with walking long distances, climbing stairs and hills, and lifting heavy loads.
- Reliable, self-driven, and able to maintain strong organization and resilience.
- Customer-focused with pride in providing excellent service.
- Comfortable working alone outdoors and operating a van daily.
