Job description

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform empowering millions of companies worldwide—from major enterprises to ambitious startups—to manage payments, grow revenues, and explore new business opportunities. Our mission is to boost the GDP of the internet, offering a unique chance to impact the global economy while advancing your career.

About the Financial Crimes Team

Our Financial Crimes team is vital to maintaining the integrity and trustworthiness of Stripe's platform. We prevent unauthorized entities from exploiting our services and detect illicit activities such as money laundering and terrorist financing. As Stripe expands globally, this team plays a crucial role in risk mitigation and regulatory compliance, supporting our goal of safely growing internet commerce.

Role Overview

As the Global Sanctions Lead, you will oversee and enhance a well-established sanctions program across multiple regions. You will guide regional teams, spearhead program evolution, and collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to modernize sanctions operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor sanctions managers and analysts worldwide to ensure thorough investigations, consistent quality, and efficient throughput at scale.
  • Set and drive the strategic vision of Stripe's global sanctions initiatives, including screening coverage, alert logic, escalation procedures, and quality assurance.
  • Advance the sanctions transformation strategy by identifying manual process bottlenecks and vendor tool limitations, championing automation and enhanced detection methods.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and Product teams as a co-designer to translate sanctions requirements into effective tooling, challenge screening logic, and prepare teams for new system capabilities.
  • Ensure all procedural and systemic changes include robust audit trails, are explainable, and meet regulatory examiner standards; lead the team through regulatory examinations and inquiries.
  • Act as the senior escalation leader for complex investigations.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of global sanctions regulations (including OFAC, EU, HMT, UN) and promptly incorporate regulatory changes into program workflows before deadlines.
  • Provide senior leadership with reports on program health, emerging threats, and team performance metrics.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Over 10 years of experience in sanctions compliance or financial crimes, with proven leadership of multi-regional teams.
  • In-depth expertise in major global sanctions frameworks such as OFAC, EU, HMT, and UN, and comprehensive understanding of sanctions screening procedures.
  • Demonstrated success in enhancing sanctions program efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Experience assessing or transitioning sanctions technologies, including vendor and in-house automated tools.
  • Ability to effectively partner with Engineering and Product to influence tool design, screening logic, and workflow automation.
  • Strong communication skills adaptable to various stakeholders including regulators, senior executives, and technology teams.
  • Experience with sanctions screening platforms and familiarity with AI-enhanced screening tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CAMS certification or equivalent.
  • Experience managing regulatory audits or self-disclosure processes.
  • Background in global payments platforms or fintech environments at scale.

Work Environment

Employees assigned to offices, such as our Dublin location, are expected to spend a minimum of 50% of their time onsite, which may vary by team and role. Some teams require full-time presence to best support workflows and users.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this role in Dublin is between €110,200 and €165,400, subject to variation depending on hiring location and other factors. This salary range incorporates various career levels and will be refined during the interview process based on experience and qualifications. Benefits may include equity, bonuses, retirement plans, health coverage, and wellness allowances, varying by location and individual circumstances.
