About the Role
Join Jacobs as a Life Safety Systems Engineer where you'll contribute to pioneering projects including semiconductor manufacturing, data centers, and other leading-edge manufacturing and research facilities. This role offers an opportunity to lead the delivery of complex electrical design packages, focusing on Life Safety and Security Systems that are critical to clients' operations worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams to design advanced life safety systems. Use AutoCAD and Revit MEP to develop coordinated 3D models alongside architects and engineers. Design fire alarms, smoke and leak detection systems, security and intrusion detection, leveraging life safety and fire codes as well as industry standards. Prepare detailed calculations, define equipment sizing and quantities, develop specifications, layout network diagrams, and produce constructible designs in both 2D and 3D formats. Lead and mentor life safety system design staff and manage project coordination within the electrical team.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in engineering or sciences is essential. Proficiency with NFPA standards, including NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, and NFPA 400 Hazardous Materials Code is required. Familiarity with IBC and NFPA 1 Fire Code as related to Life Safety Systems is necessary. Demonstrated experience designing systems such as security, access control, intrusion detection, CCTV, fire alarming, VESDA, HPM, and leak detection is important. The role also demands previous leadership experience of life safety design teams, knowledge of design and construction specifications, and capability in estimating and scheduling mid to large scale projects.
