About the Role

Midlands State University invites applications for three Library Assistant positions to support daily library functions and provide excellent service to patrons. The Library Assistants will be responsible for managing the collection, facilitating circulation, and assisting users in accessing library resources effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a National Diploma in Library and Information Science.
  • Completion of five Ordinary Level subjects including English Language.
  • Minimum of one year of practical experience working in an academic library setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle book loans and returns utilizing the Koha Library Management System.
  • Guide library users in using the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
  • Assist patrons in locating materials from Open Shelf, Reserve, and Core Collections.
  • Conduct shelving and shelf-reading duties to maintain orderly and easily navigable collections.
  • Perform circulation tasks during day, weekend, and night shifts as required.
  • Maintain physical library resources by identifying items requiring repair or binding.
