About the Role

Join Rockstar Games' Sydney studio as a Graphics Programmer to contribute to leading, large-scale entertainment projects within an inclusive and highly motivated team environment. You'll take ownership of specific game technology components and be adaptable to assist in other areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and modify game rendering systems and associated tools primarily using C++ alongside modern graphics APIs.
  • Maintain and improve extensive codebases while preserving original design intentions.
  • Create tools that enhance rendering workflows and overall game performance, aimed at boosting team productivity and reducing iteration times.
  • Write stable, efficient, and well-documented code, troubleshoot and refine complex codebases.
  • Support junior team members and share knowledge to build team capability.
  • Collaborate closely with Art and Design teams to develop flexible and seamless graphics systems.
  • Identify potential enhancements and implement improvements to existing graphics and game systems.

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in professional video game development, focusing on rendering systems using C++.
  • Proficient with at least one modern 3D graphics API such as Vulkan, Metal, or Direct3D 12.
  • Previous experience in roles concentrated on rendering technology, able to detect and resolve performance bottlenecks.
  • Skilled in optimizing both CPU (multithreaded) and GPU performance.
  • Strong foundation in 3D rendering theory and solid 3D mathematics.
  • Excellent communication skills for idea exchange and thorough documentation.
  • High proficiency in C++ and the Standard Template Library (STL).
  • Proven track record of delivering developed software products.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Mandatory)

  • Experience with graphics debugging and analysis tools like RenderDoc, PIX, or Razor.
  • Advanced shader programming expertise (e.g., HLSL).
  • Deep knowledge in two or more additional game technology domains including Animation, AI, Asset Pipelines, Audio, Gameplay, Navigation, Physics/Collision, UI/UX, VR, etc.
  • Participation in one or more shipped game titles.
  • Familiarity with modern game consoles or mobile device architectures.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine versions 4 or 5.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Lua or Python.
  • Understanding of game architecture trends.
  • Ability to articulate development preferences (e.g., Tabs vs Spaces debate).
