Job description
Position Overview
The General Technician will address guest repair requests promptly, ensuring effective communication with guests to resolve maintenance issues efficiently. This role involves preventative upkeep of tools, kitchen appliances, and mechanical equipment, including cleaning and lubricating components. Visual inspections of tools and machines are a daily responsibility, along with transporting necessary equipment such as tools and radios.
Job Duties
- Identify and operate all equipment shut-off valves and utility cutoffs for the building.
- Manage the maintenance inventory and place orders for parts and supplies as needed.
- Communicate daily activities and report any challenges to other shifts following established standards.
- Acquire and apply knowledge relating to air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical and mechanical systems, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems, carpentry, kitchen equipment, vehicles, and energy conservation.
- Execute surface preparation tasks, painting, minor drywall, and wood trim repairs, along with replacing light bulbs and air conditioning filters while ensuring thorough cleanup.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment, plumbing (such as plunging toilets and unclogging drains), electrical items (lamps, switches, outlets), cosmetic repairs, extension cords, vacuum cleaners, and internet devices.
- Program televisions and assist with housekeeping and engineering inventory duties.
- Use Lockout/Tagout procedures prior to maintenance tasks.
- Perform repairs on indoor and outdoor landscaping, including sprinkler maintenance.
- Demonstrate basic computer skills such as adjusting air handler settings and temperature controls.
- Follow all company and safety policies, report maintenance issues, hazards, and complete safety training and certifications.
- Maintain a clean, professional appearance and confidentiality regarding proprietary information.
- Welcome guests courteously and attentively, assist individuals with disabilities, and ensure high standards of customer service.
- Foster positive working relationships, support teamwork, and effectively communicate with colleagues.
- Physically capable of moving, lifting, pushing, pulling objects up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with help; navigate stairs, ramps, and ladders; reach overhead and below knees with bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
- Perform additional reasonable duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D).
- Experience in general maintenance, surface preparation, and painting.
- Experience in hotel engineering or maintenance preferred.
- No supervisory experience required.
- Valid Driver's License is mandatory.
