Gatehouse Associate

Position Overview

We are seeking a Gatehouse Associate to join our fast-paced retail environment at Kent Building Supplies located in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. This role involves working outdoors and requires a strong understanding of building materials to verify customer orders accurately. The position incorporates a critical Loss Prevention component, so efficiency, tactfulness, and thoroughness are essential to ensure all products are properly accounted for and paid before customers exit the premises. The starting wage for this job is $17.25 per hour.

Primary Responsibilities

• Collect customer payments promptly and accurately.
• Operate registers, barcode scanners, and card payment terminals.
• Verify loads of customers for correctness.
• Authorize entry and exit of all loads within the yard.
• Report any instances of theft, violation of protocols, accidents, or injuries to the store manager.
• Deliver exceptional customer service at all times.
• Handle lifting of merchandise ranging from light to heavy weight.

Required Qualifications

• Familiarity with lumber and building materials is an advantage.
• Capable of performing physically demanding tasks when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently outdoors in various weather conditions within a high-speed setting.
• Strong verbal communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
• Basic computer proficiency to manage equipment and processes.
