Role Details
We are seeking qualified Deckhands to join on a permanent or fixed-term basis. Fixed-term engagements run from early October through to the end of February 2027, suitable either for those seeking long-term maritime careers or seasonal positions during busy summer months.
The roster follows a 3 days on, 3 days off pattern, inclusive of public holidays. Shift lengths vary from 13 to 15 hours depending on day, weather conditions, and peak travel periods.
Key Duties
- Ensure the safety and security of passengers and vehicles aboard the vessels both during boarding and disembarking.
- Deliver a welcoming, efficient, and secure customer service experience.
- Support the Vessel Master and senior crew with daily operational tasks.
- Make safety announcements and share voyage information and points of interest with passengers.
- Carry out vessel rounds and report findings to the Vessel Master or senior crew.
- Maintain visual and radio watch as directed.
- Assist with securing the vessel upon arrival and departure.
- Participate actively in safety drills, including life jacket donning exercises.
- Manage the vessel café maintaining high standards of cleanliness and customer service quality.
- Keep the deck, cabin, and facilities clean and orderly throughout shifts.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Qualification as QDC (or equivalent) is mandatory alongside a valid First Aid certificate.
- Radio Operators Certificate of Competency is required.
- Seafarers Medical certificate must be current.
- Minimum of two years relevant maritime experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to learn swiftly and work effectively under pressure.
- Demonstrated capability to collaborate within a team environment.
- Experience in hospitality and customer service is advantageous.
- Possession of a full or restricted driver's license is essential due to shift work and limited reliance on public transport.
