Job description
Job Summary
Manage and oversee all drilling activities during the day shift, ensuring efficient completion of well and drilling tasks. Collaborate closely with the Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) to maintain safety for personnel, equipment, and the environment, while maximizing operational productivity.
Drilling Operations
- Ensure safety and operational efficiency on the drill floor and associated drilling areas.
- Plan and organize drilling and related activities, directing staff to meet client expectations.
- Obtain OIM approval for any deviations from the client’s well plan, ensuring documentation by Client representatives.
- Coordinate with OIM, Night Toolpusher, and Client representatives to review drilling progress and update the Driller on program objectives and changes.
- Relieve the Driller at the console as operational needs require.
- Pre-plan to guarantee necessary equipment availability for upcoming drilling or workover phases.
- Supervise drilling crew, ensuring proper circulating times and well stability during trips, BHA activities, and troubleshooting.
- Operate the drilling unit adhering strictly to company manuals and approve all drilling-related permits.
Well Control
- Implement and monitor well control protocols as per operational demands; assist during well killing operations in emergencies.
- Continuously assess well control parameters to detect early indications of issues and respond promptly.
- Maintain and routinely test well control equipment in compliance with company and client standards to ensure readiness.
- Conduct well control calculations including mud weight adjustments and circulating pressures.
Emergency Management
- Participate as a member of the installation’s Emergency Response Team according to company procedures.
- Train personnel in emergency response actions.
- Conduct and document well control and safety drills regularly as per company guidelines.
Materials and Equipment
- Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of parts and materials to support drilling activities per contract requirements.
- Ensure maintenance and repair of drilling equipment like draw works, mud pumps, top drive, rotary table, and BOP are completed and properly recorded.
Rig Move
- Prepare the rig for relocation by securing rig components and equipment prior to tow, coordinating with the drilling crew.
Client Relations
- Foster positive working relationships with other departments, third parties, and Client representatives.
- Address client requests related to materials, equipment, and personnel after management approval.
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain accurate logs and promptly submit required reports including daily drilling, equipment status, and incident logs adhering to company and regulatory standards.
Personnel Management and Development
- Provide clear instructions on duties and safety precautions to team members before work commencement.
- Coach and develop team for safe and effective operation.
- Identify opportunities for team skill enhancement and career growth.
- Ensure team receives training via on-the-job, classroom sessions, and safety drills.
- Support and engage actively in the company's Competency Assurance Program.
- Regularly evaluate team performance, provide constructive feedback, and promote a formal performance management culture.
Job Requirements
- Education: Minimum High School or Vocational/Technical qualification.
- Experience: At least 12 years in drilling and workover, including roles as Assistant Driller and Driller, with minimum one year in current role.
- Experience working on offshore rigs is mandatory.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proficient intermediate English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Competent with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong mathematical abilities including arithmetic and drilling fluid knowledge.
- Skills in situational awareness, effective communication, teamwork, and awareness of factors impacting performance such as stress and fatigue.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent climbing on stairs and ladders.
- Regular bending, twisting, and prolonged standing.
- Ability to work outdoors under varying extreme weather conditions including noise, humidity, cold, and heat.
- Capability to work shifts up to 12 hours per day.
Certifications
- Certificates as specified in ADES Training Matrix.
- Current Well Control certification (Well Sharp/IADC).
