Role Overview

You will be responsible for the full lifecycle design, construction, and maintenance of data pipelines and orchestration relevant to your scope, integrating AI where beneficial. Your role includes ensuring the quality and accuracy of data warehouse models critical for analytics, business intelligence, and customer-facing reports. You will address data issues comprehensively by identifying and resolving root causes rather than symptoms. Additionally, you will influence processes including testing, monitoring, and documentation, mentor junior engineers, and act as a liaison across teams such as Product, Engineering, Customer, and Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain reliable data pipelines and orchestration frameworks, leveraging AI enhancements appropriately.
  • Maintain and improve quality of data warehouse models supporting analytics and reporting.
  • Undertake end-to-end data issue resolution, emphasizing root cause analysis.
  • Shape and refine processes for testing, monitoring, and documenting data operations within your area.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to junior engineering staff.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally representing the data team with various departments.

Necessary Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient in Python programming and SQL for data manipulation.
  • Hands-on experience with building dependable data pipelines on AWS platforms, particularly Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, S3, or DynamoDB.
  • Solid grasp of API integrations, webhooks, event-driven architectures, and maintaining data integrity.
  • Familiarity with testing methodologies, version control using Git, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code practices.
  • Experience with BI visualization tools like Looker, Power BI, Tableau, or Superset; familiarity with Dagster, dbt, DLT, Athena, Iceberg, or ClickHouse is advantageous.
  • Additional merit for experience managing third-party integrations, multi-region deployments, and data security/governance protocols.

Additional Information and Benefits

  • Work primarily in our Christchurch office four days a week to leverage the advantages of collaborative, in-room engagement.
  • Integration of AI tools within daily workflows to enhance productivity and innovation.
  • Access to a growth-focused fund aimed at developing your professional capabilities.
  • Enjoy consistent company rhythms and benefit from a fast-growing business trajectory.
  • Take advantage of a meaningful parental leave policy that reflects our commitment to staff wellbeing.
