Position Overview
The role of Commis 1 – Pastry involves assisting in the creation, preparation, and presentation of high-quality pastry, bakery, and dessert items in alignment with the hotel's quality standards. This position supports the pastry brigade to ensure uniformity, superior quality, strict hygiene compliance, and timely delivery of all pastry-related operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare pastries, cakes, desserts, breads, and other bakery items following established recipes
- Assist senior pastry chefs with daily production activities
- Maintain consistent taste, visual appeal, and portion control across all pastry products
- Adhere to hygiene protocols and food safety standards (HACCP) at all times
- Keep the pastry area and equipment clean and well-organized
- Manage proper food storage, labeling, and first-in-first-out (FIFO) rotation of ingredients
- Operate pastry machinery safely and correctly
- Provide support for buffet arrangements, banquets, and special events when necessary
- Help minimize food waste and participate in cost control measures
- Promptly report equipment issues or safety concerns to supervisors
- Take guidance from senior chefs and contribute to seamless kitchen workflow
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Diploma or degree in Culinary Arts or Hospitality Management
- Prior practical kitchen experience in a professional catering environment
- Experience in the pastry department within a 5-star or premium hotel preferred
- Ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure in a fast-paced workplace
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Outstanding planning, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to engage successfully with guests and staff
- Problem-solving aptitude and decision-making skills to proactively tackle challenges
