About the Role

G & A Harris Ltd in Christchurch is expanding its sheet metal engineering team and seeks a skilled CNC Programmer / Operator. The company invests heavily in advanced machinery, including a new Amada CNC turret punch and Long Thalmann and RAS CNC folding machines, as well as Forstner coil processing and large CNC guillotines. This role offers hands-on work with diverse machinery and emphasizes programming, problem-solving, and maximizing machine performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing CNC programs, nesting parts, setting up machines, and operating sheet metal CNC machinery.
  • Programming and operating the Amada CNC turret punch, including support with its commissioning.
  • Interpreting technical drawings to manufacture precise, quality components.
  • Optimizing material usage and boosting production efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting issues with tooling, programming, and production.
  • Operating Thalmann and RAS CNC folding equipment and Forstner coil processing machinery.
  • Supporting fabrication and welding tasks where applicable.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in CNC programming, set-up, and operation.
  • Solid understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints.
  • Knowledge of tooling, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Strong hands-on problem-solving capabilities.
  • Commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
  • Dependable and positive work ethic.

Experience with Amada or Long folding machinery, CAD/CAM software, laser cutting, and fabrication or MIG/TIG welding is desirable but not mandatory. The company provides training on specialized equipment for suitable candidates.

Compensation and Working Conditions

  • Hourly pay between NZD 38 and 45, based on experience.
  • Flexible scheduling options: traditional Monday-Friday 7:00am–4:00pm or a 2.5-day weekend option with Monday to Thursday 7:00am–5:00pm plus half-day Friday.
