Job description

Overview

This opportunity is presented on behalf of a partner company based in New Zealand seeking a Cloud Engineer to support and expand modern cloud-based data systems.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline technical assistance for application teams utilizing the ServiceNow ticketing system to troubleshoot and resolve typical Databricks and cloud-related queries.
  • Gather and analyze technical requirements to help onboard new Data Landing Zones (DLZs).
  • Run pipelines, scripts, and automation workflows to deploy, configure, or alter Azure and Databricks infrastructures.
  • Deploy common Azure resources using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
  • Identify recurring manual tasks and create automation solutions to improve efficiency and support responsiveness.
  • Collaborate with application, cloud, data, and other interdisciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure smooth onboarding processes.
  • Develop and maintain documentation on support workflows, configurations, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Contribute to ongoing enhancements in cloud support operations and overall Databricks environment management.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience with Databricks in technical or operational settings.
  • 1 to 3 years experience working with Azure Data Factory.
  • Background in application support, technical operations, cloud support, or related roles.
  • Knowledge of major cloud platforms, especially Azure; familiarity with AWS or GCP is advantageous.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git, GitHub, or GitLab.
  • Understanding of Databricks features including Unity Catalog, RBAC, authentication, and Delta Sharing is highly preferred.
  • Experience within Azure cloud environment and resource management.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, Bicep, or AWS CDK.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automation tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions is a plus.
  • Proficiency in scripting or development languages like Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail and a proactive mindset.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
