Job description
Job Summary
We seek a dedicated Cleaner to join the Education Authority team in Crumlin, Northern Ireland. The role requires performing a variety of cleaning duties within school premises to maintain a hygienic and safe environment for all occupants.
Responsibilities
- Perform sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dry buffing, spray cleaning, waxing, machine scrubbing, stripping, and re-polishing floors using suitable equipment.
- Clean and remove stains from carpets and matting using appropriate methods.
- Clean toilets, shower areas, including fixtures and fittings.
- Wash and dust ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings, and internal surfaces up to 3.35 meters; polish furniture where applicable.
- Empty internal litter bins and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
- Provide cover for colleagues on sick leave in line with procedures.
- Complete all necessary paperwork and report any equipment defects immediately.
Working Conditions and Compliance
- Adhere to Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, COSHH regulations, statutory requirements, codes of practice, and other legal mandates.
- Wear issued protective clothing or workwear and flat-soled enclosed-toe footwear during cleaning tasks.
- Use and maintain cleaning equipment responsibly and safely.
- Duties may include tasks graded up to own competence and within the same grade.
Training and Development
- Attend induction and refresher training as provided by the Education Authority cleaning service.
- Receive training for duties at or above current grade level; payment applies only for required higher-level duties.
Applicant Requirements and Selection Criteria
Essential: Demonstrate knowledge of school cleaning requirements, cleaning methods and machinery, and relevant health and safety practices including COSHH. Applicants must show ability to use own initiative, work under pressure to meet deadlines, communicate effectively in English, organize and plan tasks, collaborate as part of a team, and maintain a flexible approach to instructions.
Desirable: Ideally, candidates will have at least three months’ experience cleaning outside the home environment and proven skill using commercial cleaning tools such as buffing machinery.

This position involves regulated activity; therefore, an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background is required. The successful applicant must bear the cost of the disclosure check (£33).
