Overview
The Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a dedicated Cleaner to join their team in Larne. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness within designated premises under the supervision of a Cleaning Supervisor or another authorized person.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform various cleaning tasks including sweeping, suction cleaning, mopping, dry buffing, spray cleaning, waxing, machine scrubbing, drying, stripping, and re-polishing floors using relevant equipment.
- Effectively clean and remove stains from soft floor surfaces such as carpets and matting using suitable methods.
- Clean toilet and shower areas, including all fixtures and fittings.
- Wash, dust, and clean ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings, and internal surfaces up to a height of 3.35 meters, including polishing furniture where applicable.
- Empty and clean internal litter bins and dispose of litter at designated collection points.
- Cover for colleagues during sick leave as per Education Authority’s procedure.
- Comply fully with health and safety legislation, COSHH regulations, and codes of practice; wear issued protective clothing and appropriate footwear during duties.
- Use and maintain all cleaning equipment safely, promptly reporting any defects.
- Complete all required paperwork related to cleaning duties accurately.
- Undertake training including induction and refresher courses as required, and accept training for higher-grade duties if necessary.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
- Ability to use initiative and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to understand and follow instructions in English.
- Strong organisational and planning abilities.
- Willingness to work as part of a team and comply with instructions flexibly.
- Knowledge of cleaning practices, equipment, and relevant health and safety requirements including COSHH.
- Commitment to the Education Authority’s values and ethos, including equality and excellence in service delivery.
Desirable Criteria:
- At least three months’ experience in cleaning outside a home environment.
- Practical experience handling various commercial cleaning tools, such as buffing machinery.
