Role Overview
The Blaster is tasked with preparing metal components and welded assemblies by thoroughly cleaning surfaces to eliminate rust, dirt, and other impurities. This function is vital to guarantee parts meet stringent quality standards prior to further manufacturing processes. The Blaster collaborates within the production team to ensure timely delivery of superior products.
Work Schedule
Regular hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with occasional Saturday shifts from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize metal parts and welded assemblies to prepare them for blasting operations.
- Operate blasting equipment designed to clean and treat sheet metal surfaces effectively.
- Apply abrasive blasting methods to remove scale, rust, grease, and other contaminants.
- Conduct quality inspections on blasted parts to verify adherence to specifications.
- Unload and systematically arrange cleaned parts for subsequent production stages.
- Maintain and perform routine cleaning on blasting machinery as needed.
- Ensure the workspace remains orderly, clean, and safe at all times.
- Achieve or surpass production timelines and quality benchmarks consistently.
Qualifications
- A minimum of two years’ experience in blasting or painting within industrial or commercial settings.
- Proficient with spray application equipment and techniques.
- Knowledgeable about industrial coatings such as primers, epoxies, and urethanes.
- Ability to independently follow safety protocols and quality procedures.
- Experienced operating blasting tools including blast pots, dust collectors, and recovery units.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment upkeep.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and meticulous attention to detail.
- Competent in reading work instructions and interpreting basic drawings.
- Possesses fundamental mathematical skills.
Education
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Performance Metrics
- Maintain an attendance rate of at least 97% with minimal tardiness.
- Exhibit positive teamwork and communication, receiving favorable feedback from peers and supervisors.
- Contribute at least one process improvement suggestion quarterly.
- Comply fully with safety regulations, achieving zero violations or safety incidents, and adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) standards.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- This is an hourly, non-exempt role; overtime may be required based on production needs, potentially including extended hours, weekends, or holidays.
- The position is located on the production floor, involving prolonged standing and working near machinery while strictly following safety guidelines.
- Requires physical mobility to walk, stand, and climb stairs within the manufacturing plant.
- Periodic use of hands for handling tools, objects, or controls is necessary.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds in compliance with OSHA lifting standards.
- Must have adequate vision and hearing to safely navigate the facility and communicate effectively with colleagues.
