Overview
A well-established and expanding planning consultancy based in York is seeking an Associate Town Planner to join their team. This position presents a great chance for an experienced planning professional aiming to advance their career by assuming increased responsibility over projects and client engagement, while actively contributing to the wider planning team's growth.
Responsibilities
- Oversee a diverse portfolio of planning projects from start to finish.
- Draft, prepare, and submit planning applications, appeals, and various planning-related documents.
- Deliver strategic planning advice to clients in both private and public sectors.
- Write Planning Statements, appraisals, and supplementary documents.
- Conduct thorough research on planning policies, legislation, and local planning frameworks.
- Engage professionally with local planning authorities, consultants, stakeholders, and consultees.
- Manage client relations, serving as the primary contact during projects.
- Mentor and support junior planning team members.
- Assist senior staff and directors with larger and more complex assignments.
- Identify business development opportunities and aid in expanding the consultancy.
- Participate in meetings with clients and stakeholders as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree holder in Town Planning, Planning & Development, or related discipline.
- Considerable experience within a planning consultancy, local authority, or equivalent environment.
- Comprehensive understanding of the UK planning system including national and local policies.
- Proven track record handling planning applications and managing projects.
- Strong skills in report writing, research, and analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities suitable for client and authority interactions.
- Capable of managing multiple assignments simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
- Commercially aware, with a focus on building and maintaining client relationships.
- Confident project ownership balanced with teamwork.
- Membership or commitment towards Chartered status with the RTPI is advantageous.
