Applied Scientist, AI Ops Integration

Job Overview

The AI Ops Integration team at Amazon is dedicated to transforming Amazon's Operations and Supply Chain into an AI-Native systems by developing innovative AI solutions that tackle long-standing operational challenges. This team leverages predictive analytics, large language models (LLMs), and autonomous AI agents to automate and optimize decision-making processes globally.

As an Applied Scientist, you will combine cutting-edge ML/AI techniques with emerging agentic AI technologies to create autonomous systems capable of comprehending, reasoning, and improving complex supply chain operations. The position also involves working with computer vision and other relevant technologies, providing a unique blend of startup-like excitement with the scale of Amazon's global operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the creation of innovative machine learning and AI-driven solutions for supply chain and operational challenges.
• Develop rapid prototypes and validate concepts through minimum lovable products (MLPs).
• Convert prototypes into scalable, production-ready systems for global use.
• Work collaboratively with business stakeholders to identify and focus on high-value automation opportunities.
• Provide mentorship to junior team members fostering excellence in AI/ML engineering practices.

The team endeavors to solve technical challenges around automation and intelligence by synergizing the expertise of scientists and machine learning engineers. This collaboration targets maximizing practical ML and AI impacts on millions of Amazon customers worldwide.

Basic Qualifications

• PhD or Master's degree combined with relevant experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or related fields.
• Proven experience in modeling for business applications.
• Contributions to the field via patents or publications in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or similar.
• Background in algorithms, data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, or high-performance computing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in professional software development environments.
• Familiarity with modeling and machine learning tools like R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, TensorFlow, NumPy, SciPy.
• Experience working with large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop and Spark.
