About the Role
The Kindle platform revolutionizes book publishing and reading worldwide, empowering independent authors to directly reach readers and enabling rapid access to books in any language within seconds. The Kindle Core Services team oversees the pipelines converting diverse source content from publishers and authors into device-compatible formats that deliver an engaging reading experience. The team continuously upgrades these systems to enhance efficiency and dependability.
We seek an innovative and technically driven Software Development Manager to lead our diverse team, influencing the content security strategy for Kindle and delighting millions globally. The role involves navigating ambiguity with sound judgement and data-driven decisions, leading skilled engineers through design to deployment of impactful projects, and fostering creativity with autonomy and recognition.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle of critical Kindle products.
- Plan, manage, and ensure timely delivery aligned with project commitments.
- Lead daily engineering operations within an Agile/Scrum framework.
- Build, mentor, and maintain a top-tier engineering team.
- Report development progress, quality metrics, system operations, and performance to leadership.
- Collaborate directly with engineers to devise superior technical designs and solutions.
- Define and execute long-term strategies for Kindle Content security, developing actionable roadmaps.
- Guide the team through the GenAI transformation software development lifecycle journey.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field.
- At least 9 years of engineering experience.
- Minimum 3 years managing engineering teams.
- Comprehensive understanding of development best practices including coding standards, code reviews, version control, builds, testing, certification, and live site operations.
- Experience collaborating with product or program management.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities, including presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven capability in communicating requirements and technical designs to users, peer technical teams, and senior management.
- Experience in recruiting, coaching, and developing software engineering talent towards greater effectiveness.
- Deep technical expertise with a history of delivering complex, cross-functional, customer-facing products.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, thriving in open, iterative, and agile team environments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced settings.
- Maturity, sound judgment, and demonstrated leadership and influence skills.
