Position Summary

We are expanding our Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team for a prominent offshore development project in Abu Dhabi. The Coating Specialist role will be located at the Contractor's Office in Abu Dhabi and is integral to ensuring the quality and compliance of coating and corrosion protection systems on offshore facilities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise and audit all stages of surface preparation, painting, coating application, and corrosion protection on offshore structures, piping, vessels, and equipment.
  • Confirm adherence to ADNOC Offshore specifications, international standards, and approved project procedures.
  • Evaluate and authorize coating procedures, method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and related quality documents.
  • Ensure environmental conditions are controlled and suitable during blasting and painting operations.
  • Observe coating processes across fabrication, construction, pre-commissioning, and installation phases.
  • Conduct and verify various inspection activities including surface cleanliness (SSPC/NACE), profile measurements, ambient condition monitoring, wet and dry film thickness assessments, holiday detection, adhesion, salt contamination tests, curing verification, and visual coating evaluations.
  • Review and oversee offshore corrosion protection programs, especially for splash zones, submerged, and atmospheric exposure areas.
  • Coordinate repair and touch-up coating work during fabrication and installation.
  • Confirm compatibility of coatings with cathodic protection systems.
  • Keep detailed inspection records, daily reports, review subcontractor quality documentation, and manage punch lists for close-out.
  • Support the preparation of Mechanical Completion and Quality Dossier documentation.
  • Administer non-conformance reports (NCRs), observations, and implement corrective actions for coating-related issues.
  • Liaise with ADNOC Offshore representatives, third-party inspectors, and engage in quality audits, surveillance, and meetings providing technical expertise on coating matters.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Mandatory certification: NACE Coating Inspector Level 2.
  • Preferred certifications include NACE CIP Level 3, BGAS Grade 2 Painting Inspector, and CSWIP Painting Inspector Certification.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience performing coating inspection within Oil & Gas, EPC, offshore, or petrochemical projects.
  • Minimum 5 years involvement in ADNOC Offshore or equivalent significant offshore projects.
  • Hands-on experience with offshore jackets and topsides, pipelines and risers, pressure vessels, structural steel, modules, skids, fabrication yards, and offshore installation activities.

Standards Knowledge

  • Familiarity with ADNOC Offshore Specifications, NACE, SSPC, ISO 12944, ISO 8501 series, ASTM coating inspection standards, ISO 9001 quality management systems, and offshore corrosion protection methodologies.

Key Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in advanced coating inspection techniques.
  • Strong understanding of offshore corrosion protection and management.
  • Proficiency in QA/QC documentation, reporting, and technical problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and team leadership.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and inspection software tools.

Additional Information

Position is based onsite in Abu Dhabi at Contractors Office for a high-profile offshore development in conjunction with ADNOC PMC.
