About the Role
Midlands State University invites applications for the position of Braille Transcriber / Embosser Operator at its Disability Resource Centre, Zvishavane Campus. This full-time role involves supporting students with disabilities by transcribing and producing Braille documents and assisting in their academic and daily activities.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, Information Technology, or related fields from an accredited university.
- Certificate or qualification in computer operations including proficiency in office software such as Word Processing, Spreadsheets (Excel), Presentation software, and Databases or Assistive Systems.
- Competence in reading Braille, transcribing documents into Braille, and operating Braille embossers (a practical test may be required).
- Additional certification in Braille Transcription or Special Needs Support is an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe examination scripts, assignments, and tests into Braille for lecturer marking.
- Produce Braille documents using Braille embosser equipment.
- Assist students with disabilities in daily tasks requiring support, such as using computers, reading, registration processes, and invoice requests.
- Help facilitate and administer examinations for students with special needs, including printing accessible test papers and invigilation duties.
- Support and encourage students with disabilities in extracurricular activities such as sports and clubs.
- Undertake any additional duties assigned by the Coordinator of the Disability Resource Centre.
