Role Overview

The Marine Electrical Engineer will be tasked with managing the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic systems used aboard vessels or within marine-based facilities. The role ensures equipment functions safely, efficiently, and aligns with maritime legislation and company protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, examine, maintain, and repair various marine electrical and electronic systems.
• Conduct both preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment such as generators, motors, switchboards, transformers, and distribution networks.
• Identify electrical faults and apply effective solutions to reduce downtime.
• Maintain and repair navigation, communication, automation, alarm, and monitoring apparatus.
• Carry out testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical devices and control systems.
• Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation accurately.
• Monitor operational performance and reliability of electrical systems on board.
• Ensure adherence to international maritime laws, classification societies, and safety standards.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams during repairs, dry dockings, and upgrades.
• Keep thorough maintenance logs, inspection reports, and equipment records.
• Assist with planning maintenance timelines, managing spare parts stocks, and procurement processes.
• Oversee contractors and technicians during electrical installation and repair activities as needed.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, electrical safety protocols, and permit-to-work systems rigorously.
• Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns, providing troubleshooting support during vessel operations.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or equivalent.
• Holding professional certifications in marine electrical systems or electrical safety is advantageous.
• For onboard roles, a valid STCW certification is preferred.
• Have at least 3 to 5 years’ experience in marine electrical engineering including ship maintenance, offshore operations, or shipbuilding.
• Experience with commercial vessels, offshore support vessels, yachts, passenger ships, or marine facilities is valued.
• Knowledge of marine automation and control systems is an additional benefit.
