Position Overview

This permanent full-time role is within the Facilities and Infrastructure team at the Mount Gravatt Campus. The General Hand and Grounds role involves supporting the delivery of VET services by maintaining the campus grounds and gardens and performing related maintenance and support tasks under the supervision of the Campus Site Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and model the organisational values to contribute positively to transformational and cultural change efforts.
  • Assist in arranging and relocating furniture and equipment to facilitate teaching programs.
  • Support the movement, delivery, and setup or dismantling of materials for displays and promotional activities to ensure smooth operational activities.
  • Conduct minor maintenance and repairs on tools, equipment, and machinery; maintain safe and functional conditions.
  • Report any health, safety, or environmental concerns to the Campus Site Coordinator for resolution.
  • Carry out regular upkeep of lawns, trees, shrubs, pots, and gardens, including watering, planting, pruning, mowing, fertilizing, and pest and weed control as required.
  • Maintain high standards in the presentation of grounds and surrounding areas across campus locations.
  • Manage waste and litter disposal appropriately.
  • Coordinate with management regarding scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Provide support to other facilities, infrastructure, and safety team members as needed.
  • Adhere to relevant organisational policies and maintain a safe working environment in line with legislative and institutional requirements.
  • Keep updated on legislation, policies, and procedures pertinent to TAFE Queensland and understand its services and products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Candidate Assessment Criteria

  • Basic knowledge or quick learning ability regarding labouring tasks, minor maintenance, workplace upkeep, grounds care, and delivery procedures.
  • Capability to work independently, manage, prioritize, and track tasks efficiently under changing conditions.
  • Strong teamwork skills and commitment to cooperative work environments.
  • Embodiment of organisational values and providing excellent client service.
  • Proven effectiveness in grounds care tasks and goal achievement.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with a willingness to accept team responsibilities.
  • Understanding and adherence to Workplace Health and Safety standards.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Possession of a valid ‘C’ Class Driver's Licence.
  • Possession of, or willingness to obtain, an ACDC electrical licence.
  • Participation in audiometric testing within three months of commencement and periodically thereafter to monitor hearing due to potential noise exposure, as required by Work Health and Safety regulations.

Highly Desirable Qualifications and Licences

  • Certificate III in horticulture or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Current forklift licence or willingness to obtain one.
