About the Role
This senior leadership position offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with operational teams across all facets of health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives at Bel Group, a prominent privately owned dairy farming business in Central Hawke's Bay. Reporting to the General Manager, the role demands initiative, pragmatism, and the confidence to carry out courageous conversations. Rather than desk-based tasks, this job involves hands-on partnership working closely with farm teams to build credibility, recognize major risks, and deliver practical, timely safety and wellbeing guidance.
Company Overview
Bel Group operates extensive agricultural enterprises across multiple sites in Central Hawke's Bay. The company manages approximately 3,500 hectares of farmland within nine farm units employing about 70 staff in the Takapau area. It has established a well-regarded reputation for strong operational performance and sustained success.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with current legislation and industry health and safety best practices.
- Support the development and enforcement of robust risk and incident management procedures.
- Design and implement comprehensive health, safety, and wellbeing training and capability building programs.
- Champion continuous improvement efforts across all health, safety, and wellbeing facets.
- Engage directly with operational teams to influence positive behavioral changes and embed a culture making health, safety, wellbeing, and accountability routine considerations.
Candidate Requirements
- Relevant health and safety qualifications.
- Working knowledge of New Zealand health and safety regulations and legislation.
- Experience preferably gained within farming, agricultural, or horticultural sectors.
- Proven capability to lead and influence in complex operational environments.
- Energy, maturity, and resilience to challenge conventional practices and foster change.
- Readiness to begin work based at Central Hawke’s Bay promptly.
