Job description
Position Overview
We are seeking a Welding Engineer to join our Quality Department at Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. This role reports directly to the Quality Manager or their delegate. The chosen candidate must achieve and maintain the necessary independent certification, currently requiring at least European Welding Technologist (EWT/IWT) per ISO14731 standards. Further certifications may be needed to meet international welding engineering standards or company requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Execute responsibilities defined in ISO14731 Annex B, supporting company management systems and standards.
- Participate in training for new and existing equipment and processes.
- Coordinate welding management and its associated activities across the company.
- Accurately prepare professional reports using company tools such as computers, digital cameras, and NDT equipment.
- Utilize computer systems including CAD, BAAN, LIKV, LIDA, and software like email, Word, and Excel.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal departments and external organizations as required.
- Investigate welding, quality, and production issues responsibly and thoroughly.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives within the company.
- Support and enhance quality management systems and maintain certifications such as ISO9001, ISO 3834-2, and EN1090.
- Work cooperatively with engineers and inspectors to assist in various tasks.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections and quality control activities to verify product quality.
- Assist in overseeing welding activities company-wide.
- Conduct or assist in welder certification and testing programs.
- Monitor welding quality continually, reporting findings and key performance indicators to production and management.
- Conduct weld testing through various methods including visual exams and pressure leak tests as directed.
- Generate and manage documentation related to Welding Procedure Qualification Reports, Welding Procedure Specifications, and other compliance documents.
- Support other quality department functions as necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Certified European Welding Technologist (EWT/IWT).
- Proven experience in all facets of steel fabrication.
- Background in quality development roles.
- Strong computer proficiency; CAD experience is highly advantageous.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Preparedness to travel as needed.
