About the Role

Greenstar is seeking a Transport Planner within the Collections department who will report to the Line Manager. This essential role involves ensuring the smooth functioning of daily transport operations by managing skip deliveries, exchanges, and collections. The position requires effective scheduling of drivers, vehicles, and routes to meet operational and customer needs in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and coordinate daily skip deliveries, exchanges, and collections effectively.
  • Assign drivers and vehicles to meet operational demands efficiently.
  • Ensure timely dispatch of drivers and vehicles each day.
  • Maintain both current and forward scheduling rosters accurately.
  • Guarantee availability of adequate resources for next-day operations.
  • Monitor and support route progress to ensure timely service completion.
  • Analyze route performance and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Assist in route optimization initiatives to improve service quality and reduce costs.
  • Verify, complete, and close all routes within the system.
  • Track and resolve system or operational issues promptly.
  • Maintain consistent communication with drivers and operational teams.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service, Operations, and Accounts to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Provide updates regarding route progress, delays, missed services, or other operational challenges.
  • Manage urgent or ad hoc work requests as needed.
  • Conduct end-of-day debriefs with drivers.
  • Respond swiftly to driver queries and resolve issues.
  • Handle operational disruptions such as vehicle breakdowns or missed collections effectively.
  • Document and report accidents, incidents, and breakdowns following company procedures.
  • Prepare, distribute, and manage delivery dockets, manifests, and related paperwork.
  • Review previous day’s documentation and address discrepancies within set timeframes.
  • Keep meticulous records of scheduling activities.
  • Support workload planning to avoid over-commitment and maintain realistic schedules.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service to manage orders and set customer expectations.
  • Help maintain strong service performance standards including completion targets.
  • Contribute positively to team objectives and overall operational success.

About You

Experience within transport, logistics, waste management, skip operations, or route scheduling is advantageous but not mandatory. Prioritizing organization, proactiveness, and keeping operations on track is essential.
