Job description
Overview
An established steel manufacturing firm with over 20 years in producing premium steel products for construction and infrastructure seeks a seasoned Transport Manager. This professional will oversee the comprehensive management and profitability of the company's vehicle fleet, with responsibilities extending to heavy trucks, drivers, fuel, maintenance, and fleet utilization.
Key Duties
- Supervise management of company's entire fleet of commercial trucks and vehicles.
- Strategically allocate vehicles to meet transportation needs, ensuring maximum use and reduced idle time.
- Maintain up-to-date daily logs tracking vehicle locations and status from dispatch to delivery and return.
- Collaborate with departments such as Sales, Stores, Dispatch, Procurement, and Operations to guarantee timely vehicle availability.
- Identify and cultivate third-party transportation clients to boost revenue during periods when company trucks are idle.
- Develop partnerships with businesses requiring bulk transport, steel deliveries, and construction materials movement.
- Negotiate transportation pricing within company guidelines and manage a database of transport customers.
- Recruit, oversee, and enforce discipline of company drivers according to company policies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Academic credentials: Diploma or Degree in Transport & Logistics, Automotive or Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related disciplines.
- At least 8 to 10 years managing fleet and transport operations.
- In-depth technical expertise with trucks and heavy vehicles.
- Demonstrated success controlling fuel consumption and transport expenditures.
- Experience in planning vehicle maintenance and managing workshops.
- Exposure to commercial transport operations and outsourcing fleet use to third parties.
- Familiarity with trip documentation, fuel and mileage logs, maintenance oversight, and cost control measures.
- Strong knowledge of roads, key transport corridors, and regulations in Tanzania.
- Holding a valid driving licence with heavy vehicle endorsement is an advantage.
