Job description
Position Overview
We invite a diligent and customer-focused individual to join Yass Valley Council as a permanent full-time Transfer Station Operator. This role involves hands-on support for the safe, effective, and environmentally responsible management of local waste transfer stations in Yass, NSW.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the transfer station facilities remain clean, safe, and well-maintained.
- Provide assistance and advice to customers regarding recycling and waste disposal practices.
- Offer courteous and professional support to the community members visiting the stations.
- Monitor dump sites to detect contamination and prevent illegal dumping of hazardous materials.
- Collect recyclable materials and valuables from waste streams.
- Sort plastic and glass containers into designated bins.
- Maintain accurate daily records of transactions and takings for financial reconciliation.
- Adhere strictly to workplace health and safety guidelines and Council policies at all times.
Candidate Profile
- Consistently reliable and punctual, capable of autonomous work.
- A strong advocate for occupational health and safety.
- Good communication and customer service aptitude.
- Comfortable working outdoors under varying weather conditions.
- Physically fit to perform demanding duties.
- Capable of following operational procedures and collaborating within a small team.
- Interested in waste management, recycling processes, and sustainability initiatives.
- Previous exposure to waste management, local government operations, construction, or similar fields is desirable.
- Possession of relevant licences (e.g., skid steer, excavator, HR licence) is advantageous.
