About the Role

Join Brisbane City Council's Infrastructure Services team, specifically within the Construction Branch of Technical Services. The team is responsible for delivering and maintaining key city infrastructure such as roads, drainage, bridges, and community facilities to keep Brisbane moving smoothly.

As a Traffic Controller positioned at the Darra depot, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and management of vehicle, pedestrian, and machinery movements around council work sites, working independently and collaboratively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain traffic control measures and proper site housekeeping on construction sites.
  • Implement approved traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes effectively.
  • Safely direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic around work zones.
  • Coordinate truck and plant vehicle movements within work areas.
  • Provide polite and professional responses to public inquiries.
  • Support team objectives and promote a strong safety-focused work environment.
  • Identify and address risks related to traffic management promptly.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Proven ability to work both independently and in teams.
  • Hands-on experience managing traffic control activities for vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Excellent communication skills including interpreting and following instructions.
  • Knowledge of the Queensland Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (QGTTM), Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) Part 3, and the Traffic Control Accreditation Scheme (TCAS).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment in dynamic, potentially hazardous environments.
  • Commitment to workplace health, safety, and exceptional customer service.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Current open C Class driver's licence.
  • Current General Construction Induction Card (commonly referred to as a White Card).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Traffic Controller Accreditation.
  • Traffic Management Implementation Accreditation.
  • First Aid Certification.

Employment Details

This is a permanent full-time role classified as Grade 4 with a weekly salary of $1,358.70 plus superannuation.
