Job description
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Teradata Administrator to manage and support Teradata database environments. The role demands comprehensive expertise in workload prioritization, security protocols, user and role administration, database performance tuning, and production environment support.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Teradata databases across various environments including development, testing, and production.
- Handle workload management tasks such as classification, prioritization, throttling, and resource allocation through Teradata Workload Management (TASM).
- Constantly monitor and enhance workload performance, detect resource-heavy queries, and resolve performance issues.
- Administer Teradata security infrastructure encompassing roles, profiles, privileges, access control, and security policies.
- Oversee user accounts by creating, modifying, disabling users, managing passwords/profiles, and regulating access rights.
- Implement and uphold role-based access control and ensure minimal necessary access.
- Monitor database health indicators such as capacity, space usage, sessions, locking mechanisms, and overall system performance.
- Identify and resolve issues related to database operation, workload, sessions, locks, and performance.
- Administer database objects, set permissions, and configure administrative settings.
- Support backup, restore, disaster recovery procedures, and maintain associated processes.
- Plan capacity and forecast infrastructure and storage demands.
- Maintain monitoring of critical resources including CPU, memory, AMP utilization, spool, and disk space.
- Coordinate database upgrades, patches, migrations, and environmental changes.
- Create and update operational documentation, procedures, and runbooks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Data Engineers, Developers, Security, Infrastructure, and Applications for timely problem resolution.
- Engage in incident, problem, and change management workflows.
- Ensure adherence of Teradata setups to organizational security and operational compliance standards.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Between 4 and 7 years of practical experience administering Teradata systems.
- Proven expertise with Teradata Workload Management and related TASM features.
- Hands-on experience managing Teradata security frameworks.
- Strong capabilities in user and role management within Teradata environments.
- Thorough knowledge of Teradata architecture, including AMPs, BYNET, Parsing Engine, and system components.
- Proficiency in Teradata SQL and overall database administration best practices.
- Experience in performance monitoring and troubleshooting database systems.
- Skills in managing sessions, locks, workloads, CPU, spool, and disk space efficiently.
- Familiarity with backup, restore, recovery, and disaster recovery methodologies.
- Competence in using Teradata utilities and administrative tools.
- Understanding of database security concepts such as roles, profiles, privileges, and access controls.
- Experience operating in large enterprise-level Teradata production environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to interact with stakeholders effectively.
