Technical Director

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead multiple engineering teams in the gaming sector. This role requires ownership of the technical roadmap, architectural decisions, and engineering standards while fostering a culture of accountability and growth. You will collaborate cross-functionally to ensure high-quality product delivery aligned with company strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the technical roadmap aligned with company strategy and product goals.
• Make, justify, and stand by architectural decisions balancing velocity, scalability, compliance, and maintainability.
• Define and enforce high engineering standards including code quality, security, system design, and operational readiness.
• Lead design and architecture reviews across engineering teams.
• Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies and integrate relevant insight into the team.
• Lead over 25 engineers across multiple teams, providing clear direction, feedback, and growth opportunities.
• Prioritize people development, actively supporting career progression and removing obstacles for engineers.
• Create and maintain a psychologically safe environment encouraging openness and idea sharing without fear.
• Manage hiring, onboarding, and retention to build the required engineering capacity.
• Instill a culture of extreme ownership where team members take responsibility for issues in their domain.
• Develop future technical leaders and manage succession planning.
• Work effectively with culturally diverse teams operating in Vietnam and Europe.
• Own delivery commitments including scope, timelines, quality, and stability post-release.
• Resolve blockers and escalate issues with actionable solutions.
• Drive continual improvements in delivery throughput and engineering quality.
• Ensure operational excellence of systems with observability, incident response, and service level agreements.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Quality Control, DevOps, and other technical directors to align delivery strategies.
• Contribute to enterprise technology strategy, platform evolution, and hiring standards.
• Represent engineering in discussions with senior business stakeholders, translating technical concepts into business terms.
• Champion adoption of new technologies including AI-assisted engineering, automation, and toolchains.

Requirements

• 5 to 10 years of programming experience focused mainly on backend systems, handling complex distributed or high-throughput environments.
• Experience in Random Number Generator (RNG) gaming domain with understanding of product building, certification, and operation.
• Minimum of 5 years managing engineering teams totaling more than 25 people across multiple units.
• Proven record of full accountability for technical direction and decisions.
• Strong sense of ownership with no tolerance for shifting blame or passivity.
• Track record of mentoring engineers towards increased responsibility.
• Fluent English communication skills for a global, English-speaking leadership environment.
• Willingness to regularly travel for 1 to 2 months to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to collaborate with local teams.

• Preferred: Experience in Poker or Live Casino domains involving complex system architecture or operations.
• Familiarity with B2B or platform engineering in iGaming, including integrations and operator-facing platforms.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards like MGA, UKGC, and implications for compliance.
• Experience with multi-location engineering organizations.
• History of introducing engineering best practices, tools, or AI workflows at scale.

Technical Expertise Expected

• Design of backend systems including distributed architectures, event-driven approaches, and high availability.
• Understanding deployment pipelines, container orchestration, observability, and incident handling.
• Security-focused engineering particularly related to gaming platform integrity and fraud prevention.
• Advocacy for modern engineering tools and leading their adoption.
