Position Summary

The Structural Estimator role involves preparing, reviewing, and presenting cost estimates related to specific structural project proposals. Key duties include assisting with estimate development, conducting cost analysis, maintaining historical data, and supporting departmental procedures. The position requires providing guidance on estimating tasks to team members as needed.

Ganotec is a comprehensive heavy industrial contractor operating across Canada and serving primarily the industrial sector. The company self-performs disciplines including civil works, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical installation, process piping, and electrical/instrumentation controls. Ganotec pursues various contract types such as turnkey, EPC, design-build, T&M, and conventional discipline packages. Location

This position is office-based in Oakville, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calculate installation quantities per drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare cost estimates for major projects locally and nationwide.
  • Develop detailed estimates for complex and large-scale projects.
  • Analyze owner's plans and specifications to fully understand project scope and develop construction-based plans for estimating.
  • Review tender and contract documents including legal advisories.
  • Coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams such as planning, scheduling, procurement, and proposals.
  • Present estimates professionally to management and clients.
  • Maintain trustworthy relationships with clients, subcontractors, professionals, and suppliers.
  • Engage with the estimating team to drive continuous improvements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree or diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent structural estimating experience.
  • Minimum of eight years' experience estimating structural components for major construction projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Canadian construction market with a focus on structural systems and materials.
  • Proficient in English with strong communication and negotiation skills; French language skills are advantageous.
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office; familiarity with Bluebeam is a plus.
  • Experience in industrial, hydro, oil & gas, or mining sectors adds value.
  • Willingness to travel to sites or client meetings as estimates require.
  • Highly organized, adaptable, team-focused with excellent attention to detail, able to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines consistently under changing conditions.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this role is $100,000 to $150,000 annually, varying based on education, experience, skills, and location.
