The City of Canterbury Bankstown is among the largest councils in New South Wales, with a highly diverse community spanning cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. Serving over 380,000 residents, the council provides 28 essential services including childcare, waste management, park upkeep, libraries, community facilities, and aquatic centers.
Position Overview
The Street Cleaner role involves maintaining clean, safe, and inviting public spaces throughout the city. As a member of the City Clean Team, you will perform various cleansing and maintenance duties to keep council assets, streets, and public areas free of litter and debris. This physically engaging, outdoor job offers daily variety, with tasks including litter collection, public space care, and addressing emergency cleaning needs. You will work autonomously and collaboratively to deliver outstanding community services.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and upkeep streets, sidewalks, parks, and diverse public spaces.
- Gather litter and clear debris to maintain safe, tidy environments.
- Operate machinery such as blowers, whipper-snippers, and other small equipment.
- Respond promptly to emergency cleaning situations as required.
- Perform regular inspections and conduct safety checks on equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
- Prior experience in street cleaning, cleansing services, or a related outdoor operational function.
- Familiarity with equipment used for cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Capability to work safely in a physically demanding outdoor setting.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Self-driven, reliable work ethic.
- Dedication to delivering quality services to the public.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary is $61,112 per annum (Grade A, Step 1) plus 12% superannuation, adjusted according to skills and experience.
