About the Role and Company

Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) is dedicated to 'opening up the world for those who want to see' by providing unforgettable travel experiences globally. The Solution Architect position involves creating cloud-native systems and driving new and optimized business capabilities. This role engages heavily in early stages of significant projects, collaborating with international product and engineering teams to resolve intricate business challenges. Participation in initial proof-of-concept phases is essential to validate technical approaches.

As part of the Leisure Product Management & Engineering team, which supports multiple major leisure travel brands like Flight Centre and Cruise About across various international markets, you will contribute to unifying platforms powering multiple customer channels including web, app, and in-store experiences.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Design complex technical solutions aligned with strategic, architectural, and product roadmaps.
  • Interpret and analyze business requirements to deliver customer-focused solutions.
  • Create cloud-native architectures prioritizing simplicity and reusability.
  • Design major software components and systems, including comprehensive analysis and documentation meeting business needs.
  • Document and communicate solutions to estimate delivery efforts.
  • Present designs to global architecture review boards across security, data, infrastructure, and application domains.
  • Collaborate with fellow architects, technical leads, and engineers to establish architectural standards.
  • Develop hands-on proof-of-concepts for cloud-native solutions.
  • Research emerging technologies and trends contributing to the company's technology radar.
  • Assist teams in identifying system dependencies for effective project planning.
  • Support risk and issue identification across solutions and related initiatives.
  • Advise engineering teams on technical and architectural challenges throughout project phases.
  • Work closely with product teams to progressively incorporate architecture roadmaps into the product lifecycle.

Candidate Requirements

  • Over 5 years’ experience in technical leadership or solution/technical architecture roles.
  • 10+ years in software engineering with extensive cross-functional collaboration in end-to-end architecture design and delivery.
  • Strong background in designing and delivering cloud-native applications that scale globally and maintain high reliability, security, and performance.
  • Proven capability to tackle complex technical and business problems and communicate conceptual information clearly across all organizational levels.
  • Deep expertise in solution architecture including architectural styles like Service-Oriented Architecture and Microservices.
  • Experience with data architecture, platform tools, and data design principles.
  • Passion for driving impactful technical results.
  • Working knowledge of databases and middleware.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
