Job description

Company Overview

Abnormal AI is a pioneering AI-driven security platform focused on protecting enterprise organizations from a broad spectrum of cyber threats. Utilizing behavioral AI that comprehends human and machine identities, it detects and prevents sophisticated attacks—including advanced email threats, identity compromises, and abuses of SaaS applications. Serving over 2,500 enterprises including more than 25% of the Fortune 500, Abnormal AI processes billions of identity-related signals daily to secure people and data at scale.

Role Purpose

In response to increasing customer demand, the Business Information Security (BIS) division is expanding its Identity Security Posture Management (ISPM) team. ISPM involves continuous monitoring of enterprise identity setups such as Okta, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Entra, unveiling hidden vulnerabilities accumulated across networks. This information is consolidated into clear, actionable insights that allow security teams to assess defenses and focus on critical remediation actions. Given the rise of identity as a prime target of attacks in modern enterprises, full visibility and proactive risk mitigation are paramount. ISPM is one of Abnormal AI's fastest-growing areas, and this role supports developing advanced identity security defenses.

Responsibilities

  • Translate detailed product requirements into comprehensive backend solutions covering data modeling, API development, and evaluation logic.
  • Engage in the design and documentation of core identity security posture systems, perform technical reviews, and participate in architecture discussions, emphasizing trade-offs and edge cases.
  • Implement engineering best practices including testing, maintaining code quality, API design, and observability.
  • Develop and scale robust backend services with Go, encompassing event-driven systems, REST/gRPC APIs, scheduled jobs, and integration layers.
  • Design and optimize database schemas suited for large-scale, multi-tenant identity workloads.
  • Leverage Kafka for event-driven workflows to handle asynchronous processing and continuous identity posture evaluation.
  • Ensure operational reliability using runbooks, feature flags, and comprehensive monitoring.
  • Collaborate closely with team leads, engineering managers, and peers to prioritize features, align on scope, and meet quarterly objectives.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and service level objective (SLO) management.
  • Operate autonomously and asynchronously within a distributed team across India and Singapore.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 4 years in software development, including approximately 2 years developing production-grade backend services.
  • Proven experience in Go backend programming, following idiomatic patterns with strong testing and error handling.
  • Solid system design skills, especially building scalable, multi-tenant, event-driven distributed systems.
  • Hands-on familiarity with Kafka or similar high-throughput event streaming platforms.
  • Advanced SQL and PostgreSQL proficiency including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling for multi-tenant environments.
  • Strong communication skills capable of articulating technical trade-offs and collaborating with product teams and engineers.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous situations, make informed decisions with limited data, and iterate rapidly.
  • Experience or familiarity with AI-augmented software development tools and workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background or experience in identity security, IAM, or security posture management.
  • Experience working in cybersecurity product environments.
  • Knowledge of gRPC and Protobuf API design.
  • Production experience with React and TypeScript for occasional frontend tasks.
