Job description

Role Overview

Joining Safariland's manufacturing team in Arnprior, Ontario, the Sewing Assembler operates multiple sewing machines to assemble fabricated articles or garments precisely following product guidelines and customer specifications. This position reports directly to the Line Leader.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform basic to advanced sewing tasks on industrial and automated sewing machines, while adhering to safe work practices.
  • Set up sewing equipment by selecting the right tools, needle types, stitching settings, and attachments in line with product or contract specifications.
  • Execute sewing operations such as topstitching, zipper and pocket installation, and forming pocket welts.
  • Carry out specialized non-standard operations including grommeting, attaching snaps, drilling, marking, clip and turn techniques, heat pressing, sonic sealing, and other detailed sewing work.
  • Shape pattern elements and join assembled components.
  • Conduct quality inspections during production and repair units failing quality standards as needed.
  • Track production goals to ensure targets are met consistently.

  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with teammates and supervisors.
  • Understand and comply with the company’s ISO Quality Policy and recognize this position’s impact on company competitiveness and performance.
  • Be trained and comply with NIJ Standard-0101.06 related to Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor to meet compliance testing program requirements.
  • Adhere to company health and safety policies and integrate them into daily tasks.
  • Keep the work environment organized and clean.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum education level: grade 10 or equivalent work experience.
  • Between 13 months to 2 years relevant experience in cutting or sewing environments is an asset.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts as required.
  • Strong attention to detail paired with a positive and proactive attitude.
  • Basic mathematical ability including fractions and measurements in metric and standard units.
  • Proficient computer skills, especially with MS Office programs such as Word and Excel.
