Team and Role Summary

The Engineering Tool Development group at Micron crafts sophisticated software tools that drive progress across our technology and manufacturing sectors. This role blends software engineering, computer vision, and semiconductor technology to create tools enhancing efficiency, yield, and insight across various engineering fields.

Position Responsibilities

• Architect and implement advanced image processing and analysis techniques to derive measurements, compute calculations, and interpret image data.
• Utilize computer vision, image processing, and machine learning methods to address complex engineering challenges.
• Engage directly with engineers involved in defect and electrical failure analysis, process development, and diagnostics.
• Create innovative solutions that elevate engineering productivity using contemporary software and vision technologies.
• Collaborate within a global team to promote continuous enhancement and technical knowledge-sharing.
• Participate in rotational on-call duties, delivering engineering support during critical manufacturing events or system downtime as required.

Candidate Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related analytical disciplines.
• Preferred candidates hold advanced degrees (M.S. or Ph.D.) coupled with applied research or relevant industry experience.
• At least four years of practical experience applying image processing (filtering, morphology, segmentation), visual recognition (feature detection, measurement, classification), and machine learning (traditional algorithms and deep neural networks) to real-world engineering applications.
• Proficiency in one main programming language suited for production research workflows such as Python, MATLAB, or R, with a track record of writing maintainable and well-structured code.
• Hands-on expertise with computer vision libraries like OpenCV and Scikit-image for solving practical image analysis problems.
• Minimum two years experience developing, training, and validating machine learning or deep learning models using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras.
• Strong customer orientation and relationship-building abilities.
• Demonstrated capacity to drive outcomes and foster continuous improvement.
• Solid understanding of mathematics, probability, machine learning, and computer vision fundamentals.
• Basic familiarity with professional software engineering methodologies.
• Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes is advantageous.
