Role Overview

As JetBrains expands, managing increasingly complex cross-team projects has become essential, particularly with AI accelerating change and coordination needs. The Senior Technical Program Manager will oversee challenging multi-team technical initiatives, ensuring excellent planning, predictability in delivery, and effective escalation management.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee complex cross-team technical programs within your main domain.
• Ensure meticulous planning, coordination, and execution of complex projects.
• Identify risks, resource constraints, and obstacles early; facilitate mitigation or escalate when necessary.
• Act as the senior project management escalation point for stalled or problematic efforts.
• Confirm accuracy of program status by validating progress firsthand rather than relying solely on reports.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, quality assurance, and service teams to finalize goals, milestones, dependencies, and decisions.
• Develop practical program plans and coordination routines, clarifying resource requirements.
• Mentor other TPMs and program leads; directly manage full-time TPMs if applicable.
• Engage with cross-functional teams while respecting their autonomy in decision-making.
• Handle programs such as feature sunsetting, major rollouts, technical refactoring, or managing complex customer escalations.
• Primarily focus on one domain with extensive departmental dependencies, contributing to cross-domain projects as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated success leading multifaceted software initiatives or cross-team projects end-to-end.
• Influence without direct authority; effectively challenge assumptions and navigate cross-functional collaboration.
• Strong skills in negotiation, facilitation, and discerning escalation points.
• Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects, prioritize well, and maintain realistic execution plans.
• Experience coaching program or project managers and enhancing execution quality.
• Technical proficiency sufficient to assess feasibility, dependencies, and risks in software projects.
• Background in technology or close collaboration with software development teams.
• Minimum of five years managing programs or projects in technology sectors.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Deep understanding of software program structures and formal training or certifications in project management is an advantage.
• Familiarity with IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, JetBrains tools, or similar developer products is beneficial but not required.
