Senior Software Engineer, Engineering Enablement

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Engineering Enablement team and enhance developer productivity across our company. Your mission will be to develop and refine internal platforms, services, and toolchains that facilitate engineering workflows at Motional.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop scalable backend services, CI/CD pipelines, build systems, tools, and platforms that support developer activities.
• Collaborate extensively with engineering teams company-wide to identify challenges and spearhead improvements in their development processes.
• Enhance system reliability, performance, scalability, and observability in distributed systems by creating new tools and features.
• Continuously monitor system health and proactively address issues before impacting users.
• Participate in architectural decision-making and contribute to setting technical roadmaps.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or affiliated discipline, or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software engineering or similar roles.
• Proficiency in contemporary programming languages such as Python, Go, and C++.
• Familiarity with Unix-like environments and associated software tools and toolchains.
• Hands-on experience with continuous integration/delivery tools like GitLab CI and Jenkins; cloud platforms including AWS and GCP; and infrastructure as code technologies such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
• Comprehensive understanding of the software development lifecycle, capable of interpreting vague requirements into clear software specifications.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication capabilities, thriving in a fast-moving and dynamic workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in autonomous vehicle technology or robotics.
• Expertise with mono-repository development utilities, for example Bazel.
• Experience with on-call responsibilities supporting critical (P1 & P0) systems.
• Knowledge of AI and large language model integration, specifically designing and extending Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers for improved productivity and automation.
