Job description
About Us
Copeland is a worldwide climate technology company dedicated to sustainable solutions. We specialize in efficient HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) systems for residential, commercial, and industrial environments, ensuring comfort and protecting temperature-sensitive goods along the cold chain. Our innovation combines top-tier engineering, design, and manufacturing with leading brands in compression, controls, software, and monitoring to develop next-generation climate technology for future needs.
Whether you are an experienced professional seeking a career shift, an undergraduate exploring opportunities, or a recent graduate with an advanced degree, Copeland offers roles that encourage innovation, challenge, and meaningful impact.
About Bueno
Bueno is a mission-focused company with 12 years of experience accelerating the built environment's transition toward Net Zero carbon emissions. We connect with modern building systems—such as HVAC, lifts, fire detection, and refrigeration—to collect extensive datasets that are often underused. Leveraging advanced analytics and AI, we detect inefficiencies and faults to help customers save money, prevent system failures, and significantly cut utility consumption. Since the built environment contributes approximately 40% of global emissions, our technology significantly influences reducing these footprints.
Our client portfolio includes major entities like Disney, Woolworths, Westfield, Target (US), and substantial European retailers. Following our recent acquisition by Copeland, we are poised to expand rapidly, targeting a fivefold business growth over the next three years, particularly in the North American refrigeration market.
The Role
We seek a Software Engineer to join our Analytics Feature Team. Previously, domain experts and data scientists directly authored analytics rules; as we scale to handle ten times the data volume, we need an engineer to own and advance this engine’s scalability and reduce complexity.
This role goes beyond scripting business logic—you will create scalable, maintainable, and observable software systems. Bridging complex building physics with high-performance software engineering, you will ensure our analytics engine, which runs on Kubernetes and Docker, supports our rapid growth effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Improve and scale our core Python analytics engine that processes vast building data streams, contributing to robust, production-level software development.
- Promote software engineering best practices focusing on code performance, testability, observability, and long-term maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with data scientists and domain experts, mentoring them in engineering practices and facilitating culture adoption.
- Work within a Kubernetes-native, autoscaling Docker environment, embracing an end-to-end ownership approach that includes understanding deployment and runtime operation of your code.
- Innovate by exploring AI integrations (using Gemini, Transformers) to automate insights and ticket descriptions; have opportunities to work with other teams expanding your technical scope.
Technology Stack
- Primary: Python, including libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and PyTorch.
- Infrastructure: Kubernetes, Docker, Google Cloud Platform, Pub/Sub messaging systems.
- Additional: Kotlin, Spring Boot for API development, PostgreSQL, time-series databases.
- Frontend context: Next.js, React, TypeScript.
Candidate Profile
- A passionate software engineer who values system longevity, clean architecture, and tackling complexity instead of quick solutions.
- Experienced in Python coding, especially with data-intensive libraries; open to strong Java/Kotlin developers eager to pivot to Python.
- Skilled at resolving challenging technical issues relating to scalability and performance, beyond simple CRUD development.
- A collaborative team player comfortable working in small agile teams (~4 engineers, a lead, and a product manager), with high autonomy and individual impact.
- Driven by purpose, seeking to apply skills where they contribute to meaningful sustainability and reduce environmental impact.
Why Join Us Now?
- Make a significant environmental impact by directly reducing carbon emissions globally through your software contributions.
- Engage in a rapid growth phase backed by major contracts and geographic expansion following acquisition by Copeland.
- Experience a culture of feature teams owning their products end-to-end, with minimal silos and broad stack involvement.
Our Commitment to Our People
Unified by a mission for sustainability, we invest in empowering our employees through a collaborative and passionate culture. We support comprehensive growth from onboarding through leadership, ensuring personal and professional success. Employees enjoy flexible benefits, including paid parental leave, vacation, and holidays.
Inclusion and Equal Opportunity
We foster an inclusive environment that respects diverse backgrounds and perspectives, promoting fairness and community. Copeland is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, welcoming qualified applicants without discrimination based on sex, race, color, religion, national origin, age, marital status, political views, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, disability, or veteran status. We are dedicated to maintaining a workplace free of discrimination and harassment.
