Senior Operations and Backup Engineer

Overview

The Senior Operations and Backup Engineer will be responsible for the administration and operational monitoring of backup solutions, ensuring alignment with the bank's strategic objectives. This role includes supporting daily business-as-usual (BAU), end of day (EOD), and start of day (SOD) operations for all software applications, including core banking and treasury systems, using established standard operating procedures. The incumbent must maintain system availability, monitor backup operations, and ensure they are current.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement, deploy, configure, monitor, and support backup tools, primarily based on EMC Networker products.
• Manage monitoring and support services for scheduling tools, specifically BMC Control-M products, alongside backup solutions involving DELL EMC Networker.
• Provide technical support and administration for backup tools and associated plug-ins, involving issue investigation, assessment, resolution, and potentially designing or modifying batch schedules.
• Support automation tools and their plug-ins by troubleshooting, assessing, resolving support issues, and modifying job configurations as needed.
• Plan and execute system enhancements including upgrades to improve performance and functionality.
• Maintain implementation standards and support documentation to uphold and improve service quality.
• Collaborate with various IT departments to understand business requirements and ensure smooth EOD flows and backup/restore operations that meet business needs.
• Continuously monitor, analyze, and support backup and restore operations, reporting any issues to relevant teams and ensuring compliance with the bank's policies and procedures.
• Monitor and support EOD processing across all environments, primarily reporting issues, statistics, and analyses to functional IT support teams.
• Oversee business systems and banking transactions to guarantee system availability and performance, escalating any problems to the appropriate IT teams.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Professional certifications in Control-M and/or NetWorker are advantageous.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in data center operations or parallel areas such as job automation, backup operations, and systems monitoring.

Skills and Attributes

• Proficient understanding of Windows, Unix, and Linux operating systems.
• Comprehensive knowledge of IT operations processes and standards.
• Experience with job or batch automation and scheduling tools; expertise in Control-M is beneficial.
• Familiarity with IT infrastructure technologies, including servers, storage, backup, and networking, with practical exposure to backup software like EMC Networker being a plus.
• Knowledge of monitoring platforms such as SCOM or DynaTrace is an advantage.
