Job description
About 2K
2K is renowned for creating some of the most iconic and culturally influential video games, including NBA® 2K, BioShock®, Borderlands®, Mafia, Sid Meier’s Civilization®, and XCOM®. Our diverse portfolio is crafted by leading studios such as Visual Concepts, Firaxis Games, Hangar 13, and others, delivering world-class gaming experiences across various platforms. At 2K, we prioritize empowering, supporting, and inspiring our teams while fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Role Overview
We seek an outstanding software engineer with proven expertise deploying and operating machine learning models in production environments, particularly as scalable, low-latency prediction services. The candidate should excel at deploying ML models for real-time, near-real-time, or batch processing based on use case needs. Deep practical knowledge of machine learning types, algorithms, lifecycle management, and modern frameworks for modeling and serving is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with ML scientists, data engineers, central technology teams, and game studios to deploy production-grade ML decision services and integrate them successfully into live products.
- Lead the evolution of Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) including CI/CD pipelines, model registries, feature stores, large-scale real-time inference, monitoring, drift detection, and reproducibility; promote best engineering practices within the ML community.
- Design and quickly prototype ML-powered applications such as recommenders, matchmaking systems, cheat/toxicity interventions, and game economy balancing tools.
- Work with development studios and technology teams to coordinate and implement ML solutions in games according to launch timelines.
- Explore, evaluate, and pilot new generative AI (GenAI) and large language model (LLM) applications; convert promising concepts into secure, scalable, and measurable implementations.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field plus over 4 years of software engineering experience with significant ML production deployment; or Master’s degree with 2-4 years of relevant expertise.
- Strong programming proficiency in Python; knowledge of high-performance languages like C, C++, Java, or Rust is advantageous. Comfortable with both object-oriented and functional programming paradigms, and quick to learn new languages.
- Firm understanding of ML tasks including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning (a plus) with hands-on experience in traditional and deep learning algorithms.
- Experience using modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, or Apache Spark ML.
- Practical experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), containerization and orchestration systems (e.g., Kubernetes), serverless setups, and microservice architectures.
- Hands-on involvement in MLOps and CI/CD tooling including model registries, feature stores, workflow orchestration tools like Airflow, Kubeflow, or MLflow, along with automated training, deployment, and monitoring systems.
- Familiarity with modern data technologies including relational and NoSQL databases and lakehouse/big data systems like Apache Spark or Databricks/Delta.
- Willingness to work flexible hours aligning roughly 10:00–18:30 local time to overlap with US headquarters for collaborative purposes.
Preferred but Not Required
- Experience developing recommender systems, search algorithms, matchmaking, or reinforcement learning solutions.
- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
- Experience with managed ML platforms like Amazon SageMaker or Databricks.
- Familiarity with stream processing tools such as Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or Spark Streaming.
- Understanding of generative AI and LLM technologies, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), evaluation frameworks, guardrails, agent workflows, or vector databases.
- Exposure to major game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity.
Equal Opportunity Commitment
2K is devoted to providing a work environment where all individuals feel welcome, supported, and empowered. We provide reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities during the hiring process and employment.
