Overview
Gameloft Brisbane invites applications for the position of Senior Level Designer to take a leading role in creating immersive and captivating worlds for our upcoming games. In this role, you will partner with the Lead Designer, Art Director, and Quest Designers to develop visually stunning and gameplay-rich environments that enchant players and encourage exploration.
Primary Responsibilities
- Define and champion the vision for creating credible and immersive game worlds that align with gameplay mechanics, storylines, and artistic direction.
- Lead the efforts in crafting world terrains, landscapes, and environmental elements with strategic oversight.
- Design and execute detailed environments such as towns, dungeons, wilderness zones, and notable points of interest, establishing essential design standards and guidelines.
- Apply advanced level design expertise focusing on pacing, flow, composition, and environmental narrative to enrich player experiences.
- Collaborate closely with quest designers to place content logically within the world, ensuring seamless integration and gameplay coherence.
- Review and provide constructive evaluations of level designs to enhance playability, visual fidelity, and immersive quality while maintaining the project vision.
- Communicate clearly with art and engineering teams regarding design concepts and technical needs, acting as a central liaison.
- Innovate in environment creation within existing technical limits and artistic frameworks to push the boundaries of immersive worlds.
- Develop comprehensive level design documentation including layout schematics, environmental narratives, and rationale to set project benchmarks.
- Prototype, test, and iterate on level designs balancing exploration, combat, and narrative components, leading refinement efforts.
- Mentor junior and mid-level designers, fostering their technical development and artistic understanding, and promoting best practices within the team.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of six years professional experience in level design, preferably with expertise in large-scale or open-world environments conducive to action-adventure gameplay.
- Proven track record in a professional game development studio with multiple shipped titles.
- Proficiency with world building tools such as Unreal Engine World Composition and terrain sculpting applications.
- Thorough understanding of level design principles, environmental storytelling techniques, and best practice methodologies demonstrated by a strong portfolio.
- Exhibited leadership abilities to inspire and guide design teams effectively.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, combined with a proactive team-oriented approach.
- Genuine passion for gaming and a forward-thinking mindset aimed at designing captivating interactive worlds.
