About the Role
The Senior Data Scientist will focus on designing and refining personalization and recommendation algorithms to deliver tailored offers, merchants, and experiences for GoPay users. The role involves leveraging various data science methodologies such as collaborative filtering, ranking algorithms, embeddings, and graph techniques to enhance user engagement and discovery. Partnering closely with product management and engineering teams, the candidate will be responsible for end-to-end machine learning pipeline development including prototyping, testing via A/B experiments, and performance evaluation using metrics like CTR, conversion rate, NDCG, and recall@k. Utilizing extensive behavioral and transactional datasets, the position aims to derive insights to inform feature engineering and personalization strategies. Continuous monitoring and iterative improvements of deployed models will be key, including identifying gaps in data or algorithms. Cross-team collaboration will help propagate best practices and support the roadmap for broader personalization efforts within GoTo.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate within cross-functional groups comprising engineers, product managers, and analysts to create data science solutions aimed at increasing customer engagement and expanding GoPay's user base and transaction volume.
- Quickly prototype data-driven solutions and actively contribute to product and feature planning discussions.
- Analyze large datasets to extract actionable insights that inform business decisions.
- Manage complete data science projects from problem definition through engineering deployment.
- Engage in knowledge sharing by participating in both internal and external technical events.
- Develop algorithms for search, recommendation, and advertising systems to improve product discovery and user conversion metrics.
- Construct advanced models of user behavior and semantic understanding using Large Language Models (LLMs) and Large Language and Vision Models (LLVMs) to enhance matching between users, queries, and inventory.
- Partner with various teams to define project scopes, conduct experiments, and deploy scalable solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Between 4 to 6 years of professional experience in applied data science or machine learning roles.
- Proficiency in Python programming along with hands-on experience in machine learning frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Good grasp of machine learning fundamentals, including supervised learning methods, ranking techniques, embedding generation, and evaluation metrics.
- Experience implementing recommender systems, search, personalization, or ranking models is highly valuable.
- Familiarity working with large-scale data platforms like Spark or MaxCompute (MC) or comparable distributed data systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities to convert complex data findings into practical recommendations.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate and present insights to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Advanced degrees such as a Master's or Ph.D. in quantitative areas like Computer Science, Statistics, or Applied Mathematics are a plus.
- Proven track record in search, recommendation, or advertising system development that has tangibly improved ranking, retrieval, or targeting effectiveness.
- Experience integrating large-scale language or vision models (LLMs/LLVMs) with search and recommendation engines is an advantage.
- Innovative mindset with the ability to introduce novel algorithms or tools that create measurable business impact.
- Capacity to infer product insights from user behavior analytics and traffic data.
- Fluent in English communication, both written and verbal.
- Self-driven, curious, and enthusiastic about delivering high-impact solutions promptly.
