Role Overview

The Senior Data Scientist, reporting to the Analytics Platforms Manager within Global IT, will be responsible for creating and supporting advanced analytics, machine learning models, and AI solutions that provide business intelligence, automation, forecasting, optimization, and strategic insights. This permanent, full-time role includes collaborating closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and technical teams to deliver scalable, trustworthy data science products that impact operations across Australia, New Zealand, and globally.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business units to comprehend data needs, priorities, and commercial objectives.
  • Discover ways to enhance BI systems and propose cutting-edge analytics or AI-driven solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, and implement advanced analytics models including machine learning, forecasting, optimization, and AI technologies.
  • Create models addressing commercial, supply chain, finance, marketing, and operational challenges.
  • Develop use cases involving Generative AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and AI-driven automation that add tangible business value.
  • Coordinate with Data Engineers to ensure data pipelines and production environments are robust, scalable, and suitable for model deployment.
  • Employ MLOps best practices including deployment, monitoring, governance, version control, and continuous refinement of models.
  • Regularly assess performance, troubleshoot issues, and enhance models and analytical workflows using reusable data science patterns.

Candidate Profile

  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics, or AI roles that have produced measurable business results.
  • Proficient in Python, SQL, statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data analytics methodologies.
  • Strong track record of developing, validating, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models in live environments.
  • Experience with forecasting, optimization, experimentation frameworks, NLP, Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and AI-enabled automation.
  • Familiarity with contemporary cloud and data platforms like Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, or comparable technologies.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving competencies.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead projects and mentor junior colleagues.
  • A tertiary qualification in Information Technology or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
