Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Behavioural team based in Toronto. This team develops the behavioural intelligence layer of our platform, transforming raw customer interactions into actionable marketing triggers such as cart abandonment, price drops, and loyalty milestones. You will engage hands-on in designing and implementing vital platform components, ensuring system scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop robust services that identify behavioural patterns from event data and evaluate trigger eligibility within specified time windows.
• Create stateful systems that maintain contextual behavioural data and support complex evaluations like multi-event intent and state-change driven triggers.
• Take ownership of delivering backend features end-to-end, including architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and supporting production environments.
• Develop reusable frameworks or rule-based systems enabling efficient definition and management of new behavioural triggers.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to seamlessly integrate behavioural signals into campaign orchestration and messaging platforms.
• Maintain system excellence by monitoring reliability and performance using observability tools, metrics, logs, alerts, and sharing on-call duties.

Qualifications and Experience

• Over 5 years of professional experience in software engineering, particularly in building and maintaining backend or platform systems.
• Proven expertise in designing and operating distributed, event-driven, and high-scale backend architectures.
• Practical experience developing stateful services, real-time decision-making systems, asynchronous processing, and ensuring operational reliability.
• Proficiency in Kafka and gRPC technology stacks for event streaming and microservices communications.
• Familiarity with high-performance analytic databases such as ClickHouse.
• Understanding of key distributed systems challenges, including partitioning, retries, duplicate event handling, ordering, idempotency, backfills, and data consistency trade-offs.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) in building scalable backend services.
• Strong commitment to operational excellence with capabilities in monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident management.
• Collaborative and product-focused mindset to balance technical quality with customer value.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with Rust or Elixir programming languages.
• Knowledge of Customer Behavioural Tracking SDKs.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is CAD 140,000 to CAD 180,000. Compensation may include additional bonuses depending on the final offer. The role also offers a comprehensive package of medical, financial, and other benefits. Salary offered will depend on relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
